The Tucson Section is a legally constituted unit of the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME) based in Tucson, Arizona. We enhance the professional development of our members through networking opportunities, engaging presentations, and service to the local community. We welcome individuals employed in or interested in any aspect of the minerals industry. Annual membership dues are $25 per person.

SME Tucson Section members meet the second Wednesday of the month for industry fellowship and to remain up to date on current events and new innovations! The monthly meetings consist of a no-host social half-hour, followed by dinner and desert. After dinner, an invited professional gives a presentation on an aspect of the mining industry or related subject. Each November, SME Tucson Section hosts a Scholarship Awards Banquet / Fundraiser to raise funds for scholarships and other section expenses. The scholarships are awarded to University of Arizona, Department of Mining and Geological Engineering students pursuing degrees in fields related to mining. The scholarship funds are provided by generous corporate and individual sponsorships.
